Dearest Gentle Reader,
It is a truth universally acknowledged that even the most devoted of hearts may, on occasion, falter. Yet, there are certain dates that ought never to escape oneβs memory, and an anniversary shared by two souls so deeply in love is undoubtedly one of them.
And alas, this author must confess to a rather unfortunate failing of her own heart. I forgot our anniversary.
Oh, bacha, Would that I could compel time itself to march backward, if only to undo the very moment my thoughtless actions brought you sorrow. For how could I, of all people, forget the very day that changed my life forever? The day I found my love, my person, YOU. β€οΈ
What pains me most is not merely that I forgot, but that I once took such delight in celebrating this very day. I shall count every tick of the clock and let the thrill of our reunion build, looking only toward the hour I may remind you that you are the very center of my existence. And yet, this time, I failed to give our special day the love and attention it so rightfully deserved. I can only imagine how deeply that must have hurt, and for that, my darling, I am truly, truly sorry.
You should never have to wonder whether the little things that mean the world to you matter to me or not. Indeed, they are known to do precisely that, my love. More than these imperfect words could ever convey.
It is the day my life became infinitely sweeter because you became a part of it. It is the beginning of my love story, one I would choose to read a thousand times over, knowing that every chapter would lead me back to you. And if fate were to grant me a thousand lifetimes, I should wish to spend every single one finding you all over again.
I know, that a letter, however heartfelt, cannot undo the hurt I have caused. Nor do I expect these words to make your sadness disappear as though it had never existed. You have every right to feel what you feel, and I never wish for my apology to become another reason for you to set aside your own feelings. You deserve patience, understanding, and actions that speak far more eloquently than promises ever could.
For, dearest, if there is one thing of which I am absolutely certain, it is this: Forgetting a date does not diminish the love I have for you, but I understand the course of my actions made you feel otherwise, and I am deeply regretted by that.
I love you more than this author could ever hope to put into words, my darling.
Please accept the sincerest apologies of this rather foolish gentleman who, despite his unfortunate lapse in memory, has never ceased to be certain of the woman who holds his heart.
Yours, with all the love in the world, today and always,
Your foolishly, hopelessly, and irrevocably devoted gentleman.
P.S. If this author may be permitted one final confession, it is that the greatest privilege of his life shall forever be the privilege of calling you hers.
I love you soo much Jaanβ€οΈ.
